Last Friday, I had the opportunity to play at the scholarship presentation of Stichting Eigen Muziekinstrument. I am delighted to share I was selected to receive a large contribution from SEM for the purchase of a beautiful Steinway & Sons concert grand piano. I will have the opportunity to truly study at top quality – every day! I realize this opportunity is rarely attainable for the young pianist. And I feel absolutely honoured this opportunity has been granted to me.
The 1912 grand piano is a particularly distinctive instrument. The colour and sound possibilities are endless. From the first moment, I knew this was the instrument I have dreamed about since childhood. The instrument feels like a conversation partner, which inspires me tremendously. In the meantime, the grand piano has had some time to warm up at our house. It sounds wonderful in our living room and I am very much looking forward to, after a good tune-up, be able to let you hear how it sounds.
An acknowledgment feels a bit substandard for what I get in return: the instrument will probably go with me for the rest of my life. For me, it means the key to new creative and musical discoveries and endless growth: which is perhaps the greatest gift of all.
My thanks are great to the sponsor Stichting Eigen Muziekinstrument, all the crowdfunding donors and everyone who supported me in this process. Especially to Koen who blindly trusted me the concert grand piano would fit in the house… (and yes it fits!).
